Is the MST Applet Viewer for Java a Desktop application or a Web-based application?
The MST Applet Viewer for Java is a web-based Java application. The viewer is a Java applet
and the server component is Java application deployed with an application server such as Apache
Tomcat, IBM WebSphere, OracleGlassfish, Red Hat JBoss, and others. The document is decoded
on the server and requested pages are streamed back to the Java applet as JPEG images.
Functions such as zooming, rotation, image filters are executed on the workstation without
sending a request to the server.
Does the MST Applet Viewer for Java support Client-Server architecture?
Yes, MST Applet Viewer supports client-server architecture.
The following are some of the features that are performed by the server:
- Document loading
- Document conversion
- Annotation loading
- Annotation saving
- Saving documents
The following are some of the features that can be performed within the viewer:
- Annotation drawing
- Image operations (brightness, contrast, grayscale, smoothness, and others).
- Page navigation
- Redaction
MST server also contains built in connectors to various ECMs(i.e. IBM FileNetP8,
IBM Content Manager 8, EMC Documentum,Microsoft SharePoint).
What Java JVM or JRE is required by the MST Applet Viewer for Java?
MST Applet Viewer requires JRE Version 1.5 or higher for deployment.
What Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems does the MST Applet Viewer for Java integrate with?
MST Applet Viewer currently integrates with IBM FileNet 4.5 and higher, IBM Content
Manager 8.4 and higher,Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and higher, EMC Documentum WebTop5 and higher,
and all CMIS Compliant repositories.
Is MST Applet Viewer for Java CMIS compatible?
Yes, MST Applet Viewer is CMIS compliant and can be integrated with any CMIS compliant ECM
to retrieve, render, view and create annotations, and view and update document metadata.

What file formats does the MST Applet Viewer for Java support?
The MST Applet Viewer supports hundreds of documents and image file formats. The viewer supports document formats such as PDF, MS Office documents; image formats such as multipage TIFF, JPEG, IBM proprietary formats (MO:DCA, IOCA, PTOCA).

Does MST Applet Viewer for Java use Oracle’s Outside In Technology for file format support?
MST Applet Viewer does not use Outside In Viewer Technology. MST develops its own custom
built format libraries for rendering in its solutions.

How are annotations saved with the MST Applet Viewer for Java? Are they burned to the document?
Currently the MST Applet Viewer saves annotation as a separate binary or XML file.
The annotations are overlaid on top of the image when the document is rendered.
The MST Applet Viewer does provide the feature to burn annotations permanently on the document
or image while saving or exporting it.
Does the MST Applet Viewer Java support IBM MO:DCA formats?
Yes, MST Applet Viewer supports the following IBM proprietary formats:
- MO:DCA (Mixed Object : Document Content Architecture)
- IOCA(Image Object Content Architecture)
- PTOCA(Presentation Text Object Content Architecture)
